Instead of participating in any fashion weeks this season, Rachel Anotonoff chose to present her Fall 2013 Ready-to-wear collection in the form of a short fashion film entitled “BFF“. Of course, she chose to collaborate with her friend Lena Dunham, thereby leading to this very moment of my gushing over the endeavor.
Dunham (who I’ve mentioned is dating Jack Antonoff, Rachel’s brother) directed the short film which exhibits behaviour of best friends in their natural habitat, National Geographic style. Not only does the film star Dunham’s sister Grace (who is recognizable from her role in Dunham’s SXSW-winning film Tiny Furniture), but the voiceover is done by Adam Driver of Girls, who happens to have the ability to put on a very convincing British accent. Oh, and Jack worked on the music, obviously.
Admittedly, I haven’t followed Rachel Antonoff much in the past, but I was really enjoying what I saw of the film’s “wardrobe,” as Antonoff’s collection is well-showcased. The film is visually lovely, and I thought it was altogether smart, funny, and interesting. It feels slightly different than Dunham’s other work (namely Tiny Furniture and Girls) and overall, I think it’s a great collaboration. (Though I’m a biased Lena fan.) And also, a nice marketing choice for Antonoff.
