Europe is breath-taking. I expected to love it, but the architecture and the overall atmosphere managed to exceed my already high expectations. This is the result of being shutter happy, deciding to bring long-expired film along, and London being a very photogenic city. To my surprise, the entirety of the city looked like this; I can’t wait to go back. Photos of Somerset House, Buckingham Palace, The River Thames, and more.

Deus Ex Machina
By definition, “deus ex machina” is a literary device in which divine intervention is used to resolve a problem, sometimes unexpectedly. Quite literally it is “god from the machine.” For my grad show a couple years ago, it was suggested as an overall theme, pointing to moments of inspiration to solve design problems. While that didn’t go over too well, I like the idea of bursts of inspiration and mechanical serendipity. It’s possibly why I enjoy shooting analogue — light leaks and accidental double exposures are sometimes the best parts of looking through freshly developed photos for the first time.
London, Part 1: The Eye
Travelling to London (and Paris for a day) this past October marked my first time in Europe. Obviously, it was everything I expected and more. Lovely culture, beautiful architecture, and great shopping. Photos are of The Eye, but mostly taken while on it. It’s essentially a gigantic ferris wheel (443 feet tall!) situated on the banks of the River Thames. It overlooks London, offering tourists (and maybe locals?) a fantastic view, especially of Big Ben and parliament. From seeing photos in the past, I didn’t expect much of the giant clock attraction, but I found it absolutely stunning in person.
Room
Various photos of my room over the past two to three years because I’ve noticed that I take many random, end of the roll types. Not a great deal to say about these. I occasionally put things I like on my wall, and the colours in my closet are decidedly neutral. Right now, it’s all black and cream. I bought new sheets from IKEA a couple weeks ago, and just changed my sheets last week. It’s really nice having new sheets in a weird surprised-every-time-I-enter-my-room kind of way.
NYC ’12
This past summer I was in New York one week too early for Fashion Week. Prior to this trip, I had visited the city once when I was 12, and another time for just a day six years ago. Seeing as this was the first time I had ever been able to actually experience New York on my own terms, I completely fell in love. Needless to say, reading about all the events and shows at places I had visited just one week prior was a little heartbreaking. Well, catwalk season is approaching, and once again, I’m not in New York. Here’s to reminiscing. Instead of fashion, the trip was [...]
